We first caught whispers of a 1,000-HP Mercedes last August, when a source from within the Mercedes Formula 1 team appeared to confirm a earlier report by Top Gear.
Now it’s got an ominous, silhoutted photo and a name to go with it: the Mercedes-AMG Project One.
Officially announced at the Detroit Motor Show, Mercedes newest two-seater with a Formula One-derived drivetrain will claim 1,000 horsepower thanks to an “electric and wheel selective front axle drive concept.”
We knew it was going to be powerful. But we didn’t know it was also going to be a hybrid: Mercedes says Project One will be able to go 15.5 miles on electric power alone. So … it’ll get you to the grocery store and back on a charge.
Hey: it’s a start. Even if there’s no where to put the groceries.
