In some circles — hospitals, e.g. — they say no news is good news.

Not so in the automotive industry.

This week, thanks to the sleuths over at AutoBlog, we have official word that the Mercedes-AMG GT C Coupe will hit floors in 2017, with the potential of a GT R Roadster to follow. According to Tobias Moers, Mercedes-AMG head honcho, the Coupe — basically a souped-up, hard-top version of the existing AMG GT C Roadster — will 100%, Scout’s Honor, be unveiled next year. And when it does, an upgraded 550-hp twin turbo V8 is mooted. No official word on timing yet, however.

As for the GT R Roadster — worthy of adoration thanks to some revised tweaks and a reported 577 ponies — Moers mentioned that additional variants would follow.

So keep that one in the back pocket for now and wish upon shooting stars that a convertible GT R might make it’s way into reality as well.
