There’s two schools of thoughts when it comes to innovation:
One: If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Two: There’s always room for improvement.
Given that we can’t agree on which of those is the apter axiom, it’s no surprise that no one is quite sure how to feel about the Ford Mustang GTT coming to this year’s SEMA show in Vegas.
From California-based Zero to 60 Designs, the ride weds all the iconic features of the GT with a contemporary Mustang. The additional “T” on the GTT stands for tribute. And the makers did bolster the supercar appeal with some serious modifications: the 5.0-liter Coyote V8 gets a zippy new supercharger from ProCharger, and a Magnaflow dual exhaust and SCT Performance ECU tune are on the specs. All in, it pushes the power above 800 ponies.
For those in favor of the look, Zero to 60 will be making a limited-run production of the vehicle for the public for release in early 2017, and prices are to be revealed in time to fulfill any Christmas wishes.
But … do you really want one? We can’t help but think the GTT is the supercar version of a wolf in sheep’s clothing. If you want a wolf, just get a wolf — right?
Of course, the GTT will have a certain je ne sais quoi, at least where collectors are concerned: there won’t be many of them, and the first prototype was crafted mostly by hand, and in just six weeks no less. Impressive.
So while it might not be as controversial as, say, a Land Cruiser/Hot Rod mash-up, it has us all scratching our heads in a “Hmm. Yeah. It’s a’ight” kind of manner.
