2020 has been rough to say the least, but this news is pretty, prettayyyy good: as People reports, Larry David has married his girlfriend Ashley Underwood.
David, 73, and Underwood were reportedly married on Wednesday in Southern California. They met in 2017 at the home of Sacha Baron Cohen and his wife Isla Fisher during a birthday party for Cohen. Underwood worked as a producer on Cohen’s Showtime series Who Is America? In a New York Times profile back in April, David said Cohen and Fisher intentionally set them up.
“We were seated next to each other, I think with that in mind,” he said. “Much to her surprise I left before dessert. I was doing so well, banter-wise, I didn’t want to risk staying too long and blowing the good impression.”
According to People, Underwood moved in with David in 2019, and the couple shares a cat named Elwood and a puppy named Bernie (named after Bernie Sanders, naturally).
David was previously married to environmental activist Laurie David for 14 years before they split up in 2007. They share two daughters, Cazzie, 26, and Romy, 24. Cazzie is currently spending quarantine with David and Underwood, and as anyone who has ever seen an episode of Curb Your Enthusiasm can probably imagine, it has not been going smoothly.
“There’s not a moment in the day when there isn’t friction between at least two of us,” David told the Times. “Then when that gets resolved, two others are at each other’s throats and it’s invariably about dishes. ‘You didn’t do the dishes!’ Or ‘You didn’t help with the dishes!’ I think that is being screamed all over the world now.”
