“Fear is the mind-killer.”
We’re not quoting Elon Musk’s COVID disinformation campaign (not this time at least), rather the famous line from Frank Herbert’s novel Dune that endcaps the first trailer for Denis Velleneuve’s new film adaptation. And yes, it’s spoken by none other than Timothée “too pretty to live” Chalamet.
Rather than a half-hearted teaser leaving us wondering whether or not Dune was really worthy of a blockbuster remake featuring an all-star cast (including Oscar Isaac, Zendaya, Josh Brolin, Stellan Skarsgård, Charlotte Rampling, Jason Momoa and Javier Bardem, among others), the trailer is three minutes of unapologetic interstellar grandeur.
Tired of sub-par cinematic space epics? This may just be the antidote:
Do you like what the film’s composer Hans Zimmer has done with Pink Floyd’s “Eclipse” in the trailer? Does Timothée’s Paul Atreides look better than Kyle MacLachlan’s in David Lynch’s 1984 movie? Could you face down a sandworm with that much composure?
You’ve got plenty of time to ponder those questions and more as the film is slated to be released on December 18 of this year, if movie theaters can hold out during the pandemic.
