We can’t travel to many foreign countries.
And now we can’t even travel to many places easily in our own country, including Hawaii. According to the travel site One Mile at a Time, travelers to the island state will have to quarantine for two weeks, a restriction set to last until at least Sept. 1.
Initially, the restriction was set to expire at the beginning of August, with an opportunity to circumvent the quarantine with a negative coronavirus test up to 72 hours before arrival.
However, the state has seen about two dozen cases per day recently, and going with the original pre-testing before travel would add another estimated 15-20 cases.
Apparently, even residents in the state — which relies a lot on tourism — agree with the decision, as 8 in 10 back the state government’s decision in a recent poll, as reported by Hawaii News Now.
On Monday, the Hawaii Tourism Authority said that the industry wants to “welcome back our visitors once our state is ready to do so in a safe manner that will hopefully avoid the need to backtrack in the future.”
