When someone says the phrase “moon watch,” the first name that comes to mind is the Omega Speedmaster, a timepiece that Buzz Aldrin wore on the lunar surface back on July 20, 1969 and has been part of every moonwalk since. If you want one for your own wrist, they start a little over $5,000 and go up from there.
The Bulova Lunar Pilot has never been issued by NASA, but an early version of the watch, somewhat accidentally, also made it to the moon when the Speedmaster worn by astronaut Dave Scott failed during the Apollo 15 mission. Thankfully, Scott had his own personal Bulova onboard, so he strapped that on instead.
That specific chronograph sold for $1.625 million at auction back in 2015. However, the Lunar Pilot, a recreation of the model from Bulova, is currently on sale on Amazon for 53 percent off its already eminently affordable price, knocking it down to just $316. Yes, it is a quartz movement (thus the price point), but you’re getting a heck of a lot of watch and even more history for a little over three hundred bucks.
