Touring musicians have been hit especially hard as a result of coronavirus; with cities across the country essentially on lockdown, many have lost months of income due to canceled performances. One such musician is none other than Rock and Roll Hall of Famer David Crosby, who recently told GQ that he stands to lose his home if his upcoming tours are scrapped.
“Because, you know they don’t pay us for records anymore, right? So touring is all we got,” Crosby explained. “That’s really the only thing that we can do to make any money. And to lose it is just awful. I may — honest to God — I may lose my home. I don’t know what to do about it, except just try to roll with the punches and keep going. Truthfully, if I lose the tours, I probably will lose my home.” It’s a different tone since InsideHook talked to him last year when he told us, “I’m fuckin’ smokin’. I’m beating everybody I know.”
Crosby is still not sure whether or not his gigs (which are slated begin in May and end in December) will be canceled, but he says if they are, it will “put [him] in deep financial trouble.”
“They haven’t talked about May yet, which is when I’m slated to go,” he said. “But once I start in May, I’m working almost constantly until about six days before Christmas. And if I lose it all, I’m going to be in deep shit.”
When asked whether fans buying merch could help offset some of his losses, Crosby responded, “Yeah, it helps,” but he doesn’t sound too optimistic. “It’s not going to replace what — I’ve lost half my income, man,” he said. “Half.”
