If we’ve said it once, we’ve said it a million times — they don’t make ’em like they used to.
But maybe they do.
Because renowned designer and custom auto expert Chip Foose is out to turn a 1935 sketch into a living, cruising reality.
Four score and one years ago, car dealer Wes Rydell commissioned this stunning bespoke Cadillac ragtop coupe. The ride was drawn up by one Art Ross, a GM designer, and was meant to be a slight variation on the popular Cadillac sedan. For reasons lost to history, the sketch remained just that — a sketch — and was never put into production.
But when you’ve got the skill set that Foose has, why the hell not? The custom king recently announced he was building the car, based on the ’39 Cadi Series 60 Sedan. His play, following the original design, will also be burgandy, but he’ll be peppering in some of his own unique style. The project goes by the name “Madame X.”
