There’s a reason motorheads revere the Honda (née Acura) NSX on a level usually reserved for the storied heavy hitters (Ferrari, Lamborghini, Koenigsegg et al.) of horsepower. And there’s a reason why that reverence is ramping up to excitable grunts and finger-pointing as the release of the 2017 edition (only the second since the model’s discontinuation in 2005) draws nearer.
First off, it’s an all-wheel hybrid with hypercar technology. Second, besides a turbocharged V6 that runs on gas, the NSX also has three electric engines. Third, and perhaps most important, the $320,000 supercar is priced to move (heh) to the point that its manufacturers have decided to create a special Australian version just to make sure customers there can get one in their driveway.
With a 0-62 MPH time of under three seconds and a top speed approaching 192 MPH, NSX models in the U.S. and U.K. are backordered for at least two years, and Honda is expecting that demand for the “hybrid technological tour-de-force” in Australia is also going to be quite high.
In order to spread the word, Honda is taking an NSX around Australia to show it off to possible customers. The rare car will then be made available at just five dealerships starting in the fall.
“It will be exclusive; so those customers who value such exclusivity will really appreciate the Honda NSX,” says Honda Australia director Stephen Collins. “It will be the must-have supercar in Australia among those owners who appreciate finely crafted automobiles.”
