Each week, our inbox runneth over with news of gear, apparel and tech releases from around the world. In this feature, we’ll parse through the best of them. Today: Chiefs and 49ers Superbowl LIV hats, a probably fine beer and a new and smartphone-improved Razr flip phone.
Nike Air Max 97 G
The iconic Air Max 97, but make it golf. Even the links are seeing a sneaker revolution so you can at least look good while you’re duck-hooking everything in sight. If you miss out on this particular shoe, you can get the, uh, more golf course-lookin’ version on Monday the 27th.
No. 14 Dual Handle Skillet
If you’re not comfortable cooking with cast iron, this is not the pan for you. On the other hand, if you consider yourself a cast iron connoisseur, Smithey’s largest skillet to date will be the new pièce de résistance of your collection. They recommend using it to roast game birds, sear steaks or grill a dinner’s worth of vegetables.
Best Made Brass Collection
If there’s one thing Best Made Co. excels at, it’s making needlessly fancy versions of notably not-fancy items. This is on full display in their new Best Made Brass collection, which features such must-haves as an $88 sliding match safe, $22 brass dice, a $118 brass yardstick and, our favorite, a $28 brass pencil sharpener that comes with a leather case. It’s totally absurd and we need all of it immediately.
Jordan Retro 4
If you, like us and pretty much everyone else we know, missed out on the Bred 4s that were released last year, you could do far worse than the Black Cat version, released this week for the first time since 2006. It’s a fully blacked-out take on the classic Jordan 4 silhouette, done up in black nubuck suede and featuring black plastic hardware and netting. As far as 4s go, we’re still holding out for a pair of white cements, but we’re tempted.
Lululemon Lunar New Year Collection
Is there any reason for Lululemon to release a Lunar New Year line other than to capitalize on a Chinese holiday? No. Are we always happy to pick up new Lululemon gear for their industry leading construction and nontraditional color choices like garnet and fools gold? You bet.
Mejuri Men’s Thin Band
At some point you’ve probably received some not-so-subtle hints about jewelry from the woman in your life, you can now turn the tables and drop some hints of your own: jewelry brand Mejuri has just released their first men’s items, including the Thin Band, in either 14k yellow or white gold. It’d make a perfect wedding band and can be engraved for a more personal touch. But it’s also minimal enough for everyday wear, betrothed or not. There’s only 21 more days until Valentine’s Day…
Regular Beer
Honestly, the whole notion of a beer being described as regular is offensive and meaningless, as if we should perpetuate the stupid and stupidly American idea that a wheat beer or a brown ale or even a fucking IPA should be thought of as foreign beers for fancy people. But whatever, we get it. It’s a lager “for the times when you want to drink regular beer.” It’s probably fine. You should probably drink something better.
Motorola Razr
Hey! Remember me? Your 2005 Motorola Razr you felt oh so cool flipping open to answer a call, the one you used actual buttons to call/text with? Well, I’m back from cell phone purgatory, but this time I got the smartphone treatment. Yup, Motorola brought me back as a foldable smartphone, with an impressive 6.2-inch, 2142-by-876 foldable pOLED display, a second, outer OLED screen, a 16MP rear camera and 5MP front camera and fingerprint sensor. Hope you’ve been well. Tell your new iPhone, I said hi.
Banana Republic Dry Indigo Traveler Denim
Shoutout to Banana Republic for getting into the ethical denim game. The material is notoriously bad for the environment, so the brand now offers a line called Dry Indigo Traveler, which uses up to 99% less water and 89% fewer chemicals, and reduces energy usage in production by 65%. There are four washes available to start, so go ahead and try out a couple.
Super Bowl LIV Hats
The odds are still 50/50 on who will bring home the ‘bowl — but if you’re a Niners, Chiefs or Andy Reid fan you can pick up a Super Bowl LIV hat with your preferred team, in various styles and colors, to wear during the game or just to keep as memorabilia — cause you never know when you’ll be here again.
Taylor Stitch Australian-Relief Piston Jackets
One of our favorite menswear brands just released a new Harrington-esque jacket in indigo corduroy called the Piston, which we whole-heartedly endorse. But they also commissioned three custom chainstitched (read: embroidered) versions which they’re auctioning off to raise money for the Australian bushfire crisis, specifically the New South Wales Fire and Rescue Service. If you haven’t donated yet, there’s no better time.
Fiskars by Maria Korkeila Capsule Collection
Now that Carhartt has shown continued success in the fashion arena, Fiskars wants some of what they’re having. The Finnish home and garden company teamed up with designer Maria Korkeila for a “unisex workwear-meets-streetwear collection” which will be available soon for all the plant daddies out there.
