Michelin has released its list of 2020’s top New York restaurants, extending consideration to establishments in Westchester County for the first time.
As widely predicted, Dan Barber’s Blue Hill at Stone Barns finally earned a much-anticipated nod from Michelin’s anonymous inspectors. The only Westchester Country restaurant to make the guide, Blue Hill at Stone Barns was awarded two out of three stars, Eater reported.
Other newcomers joining the ranks include more casual locales Estela and Four Horsemen. Helmed by Chef Ignacio Mattos’s, Estela has long been acclaimed for its new American fare, while Four Horsemen in Williamsburg has garnered praise for its natural wine list and chef Nick Curtola’s seasonal menu. Oxalis in Prospect Heights and FiDi newcomer Crown Shy also represent more casual destinations that joined the list year.
Fancier entrants include chef Alain Verzeroli’s Le Jardinier and Jonathan Benno’s pricey Italian restaurant Benno at the Evelyn Hotel. As Eater noted, Michelin has long been sparing with its stars when it comes to Italian offerings in New York. Both infamously exclusive Rezdora and Lilia by Missy Robbins remained starless this year.
A total of five New York restaurants retained their coveted three-star status: Chef’s Table at Brooklyn Fare, Eleven Madison Park, Le Bernardin, Masa and Per Se. No new restaurants in the city have been elevated to that ranking since 2012.
A few high-profile restaurants also lost their star-status this year, including the recently Mario Batali-devoid Babbo; the Bushwick Italian restaurant Faro; Daniel Boulud’s Cafe Boulud; Cafe China, known as one of the city’s top Sichuan destinations; Kyo Ya, a longtime favorite for East Village Japanese cuisine; and Junoon, Flatiron’s top Indian restaurant.
