Each week, our inbox runneth over with news of gear, apparel and tech releases from around the world. In this feature, we’ll parse through the best of them. Today: a birthday bourbon, a $14,000 gaming chair and math-inspired New Balance sneakers.
Adidas Liberty Cup Shoes
Adidas skateboarding is paying homage to late ’90s tennis and skate cultures. The Liberty Cup shoe is inspired by the era’s chunky shapes and neon details and constructed with a cushioned Bounce midsole for absorbing impact and keeping you comfy.
The Mission Jean
The latest offering from the ever-reliable Bay Area menswear brand Mission Workshop, the Mission Jean foregoes traditional denim for a “stretch-woven fabric” developed specifically for them by Italy’s Mectex M.I.S.
Highsnobiety x New Balances 577
Highsnobiety and New Balance have teamed up for the first time to revamp the popular 577 silhouette with a colorway even, maybe especially, a nerd could love. The sneaker’s design is “inspired by the Ulam Spiral, a random, graphical visualization of prime numbers, due to 577 being prime.” And the color palette represents other cool mathematical concepts like the sum of all numbers and — who are we kidding we like this because the colors are dope.
Bexar Goods Co. Classic 4 Bifold
The wallet itself doesn’t offer any unusual features aside from its striking white and orange color scheme, but its appeal lies in the exquisite hand-stitching that, in staying true to centuries-old techniques, assures that it will be part of your life for many, many years. And we can only imagine how good that white will start to look with a little age on it…
Norse Projects x Harris Tweed Collection
Norse Projects and Harris Tweed have created an outerwear collection made from the latter’s classic fabric. The collection includes a cap, gloves, and the two more notable pieces — the Svalbard and the Nunk. The Svalbard, a raglan-sleeved car coat, includes Harris Tweed fabric with the wind-resistant Gore-Tex Infinium, while the Nunk, a hunting-inspired jacket, features a Harris Tweed outer with an insulated and more sustainable interior filled with Thermore Ecodown.
Old Forester 2019 Birthday Bourbon
Marking founder George Garvin Brown’s birthday, this extremely limited annual release comes in at its highest proof (105), distinct butterscotch on the nose, blackcurrant and maple on the palate and a spicy yet smooth finish the company describes as “Peppermint tea sweetened with honey, with ever long Szechuan Peppercorn.” Overall, this is rich and bold and works just as well as your birthday treat.
Clarks Originals X Carhartt WIP Wallabee
We love a Wallabee around here. It’s one of the trickier Clarks silhouettes to pull off, with its awkward shape and borderline platform sole. It’s like the quirky older brother of the classic desert boot. This version is a collaboration with workwear mainstay Carhartt, available in two colorways — the brown you see above and a really nice olive.
Acer Predator Thronos Air Gaming Chair
This steel monstrosity includes three monitor mounts, an adjustable keyboard and mouse tray, a footrest, a cup holder, cameras and yes, even a massage function. All you need is a gaming computer, monitors, a keyboard and $14,000.
Minnetonka Moccasin Two Button Softsole Boot
By now you either own a pair of these or have seen someone wearing them — and that person may have been Brad Pitt. Minnetonka Moccasin re-released the soft sole moccasin boots, the exact pair Pitt was wearing in Quentin Tarantino’s Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. Unfortunately, it seems people are really itching to look like Pitt cause these look to be sold out already. But you can still get basically the same pair just with a hard sole.
Roku Smart Soundbar
Roku’s first-ever soundbar isn’t like regular soundbars — it’s like way smarter. The 32-inch unit isn’t just a speaker; it doubles as a streaming box thanks to the built-in Roku player. Which means you can plug this into any TV’s HDMI port and get 4k streaming along with premium sound quality.
Allbirds x JUST Water Collection
If you’re looking to make a super ethical purchase, here’s your chance. Allbirds and JUST Water — the sustainable and ethically sourced water bottle brand founded by Jaden Smith — has made some limited edition shoes celebrating FSC Certified trees and Brazilian sugarcane. And to top it all off, 100% of the proceeds go to Leonardo DiCaprio’s Amazon Forest Fund.
