Each week, our inbox runneth over with news of gear, apparel and tech releases from around the world. In this feature, we’ll parse through the best of them. Today: an extremely portable kayak, socks made from trees and a TSA-approved see-through toiletry bag.
Rhodes Footwear The Felix Chukka
Huckberry’s in-house shoe brand, Rhodes, just dropped a pair of chukka boots that could be a real home run for them. Priced just right at under $200, they feature a classic silhouette that’s a step above the Clarks Desert Boot on the formality scale, but not quite on par with similarly styled offerings from Alden or Allen Edmonds, thanks to their more casual materials. We just got a pair of our very own to test, so be on the lookout for a full review coming soon.
Everlane The Chore Pant
Somewhere between a work pant and a chino, these new Chore Pants from Everlane are made of a hefty 8.6-ounce twill cotton and cut a little bigger in the seat and thighs for a more relaxed — but still fashionable — fit.
Lagavulin 10 Year Old
The two best tasting words put together? “Sweet and salty.” And that’s how Lagavulin is describing its just-released 10-year old Islay Scotch, matured in three different cask types (refill, bourbon and freshly charred). A smoky finish on the end (smoky = also an excellent descriptor), Lagavulin’s new expression is a travel retail exclusive. A good reason to scour those duty-free shops.
NFL Cold Weather Collection by New Era Cap
Wondering what your team’s backup quarterback is going to be rocking on the sidelines all year? Well now you know.
The Ranger Fanny Pack
When the Parks Project comes up with an idea for a product that is this perfect for its intended audience, you can bet your … fanny pack it’s going to sell out quick. Which this already did. Get ready to hit the secondary market, folks.
UNIQLO x Rodger Federer
In 2007, Roger Federer sported an all-black Nike fit at the US Open, earned the nickname “Darth Federer”, took home his fifth title and generally looked cool as shit. Fans have been clamoring for a similar kit since, and this year, they’ll finally get it, with Federer’s first all-black collection arriving just in time for the Open.
Oru Kayak Inlet
Not only is the Inlet Oru Kayak’s lightest boat yet at just 20 pounds, and the most compact yet (about the size of a guitar case and able to be worn on your back), it’s also by far the cheapest. The MSRP is just $899, but until October 11th on Kickstarter, you can get one for just $749 (or $829 with a paddle).
Allbirds Socks
Allbirds, makers of dorky shoes for dorky bros, have started making socks, which they say are made of “the best materials nature has to offer, like wool and trees,” which makes exactly zero sense.
Only NY x PRO-Keds
Streetwear brand OnlyNY has teamed up with Pro Keds for a mini-line that we are very much here for. The star of the show is the Royal Lo Plus, a re-jiggered version of the Pro Keds classic, done here in gold, off-white and, our personal favorite, hunter green suede.
Busch Latte
While brands like Four Loko and Natural Light are jumping on the spiked seltzer bandwagon, Busch has created their own market — Busch Latte, a beer in exchange for your morning cup of joe. Spoiler alert: it isn’t actually some kind of beer latte concoction, just a can redesign that pays homage to coffee ads from the ’80s and ’90s. What you’ll get in a can of Busch Latte is the cold, refreshing taste of a Busch Light and a solid excuse to start your day off with a beer.
Filson Chronograph Watch
A chronograph version of Filson’s workhorse field watch, as self-explanatory as it is handsome and durable.
Stitch Golf Travel Bags
As the name suggests, Stitch got their start a few years back making golf bags. Now they’ve branched out into bags for all phases of life — on- or off-course. Their latest release is one of those two-piece duffel/tote combos that frequent flyers swear by, done up in Stitch’s signature super-hardy “Touring” fabric.
Nike Joyride Run Flyknit
We are pretty big stans when it comes to Nike, and we have played along with all sorts of gimmicky-sounding shit they’ve pulled over the years. We are, however, packing some pretty serious skepticism when it comes to the Joyride, their newest running shoe. Its main feature is, of course, visible from the outside — a heel-full of TPE beads that conform to your foot with each step, supposedly mirroring the experience of running on sand.
