After some constructive time in the studio, The Hold Steady are dropping their first LP in five years later this summer.
Containing six songs which have already been released, 10-track Thrashing Thru the Passion is The Hold Steady’s first release since 2014’s Teeth Dreams. It’s also the first album with keyboardist Franz Nicolay since 2008’s Stay Positive.
“I’ve remarked for a while now that this six- piece lineup of THS is the best we’ve ever had. It’s not really even negotiable,” Finn wrote in a statement. “And fifteen years in, I believe that we are making some of our very best music. We’ve come to a place that feels both fun and vital. When I listen to these songs, I feel a sense of joyfulness – I hear friendship, community, positivity and a love of rock and roll music. This band has changed all of our lives, and it continues to make changes. Good ones.”
Finn and Nicolay, along with bandmates Bobby Drake, Tad Kubler, Galen Polivka and Steve Selvidge, will release the record on August 16.
