New York Mets fans are not pleased that Tom Brady’s company, TEB Capital Management, has filed to trademark “Tom Terrific” for use on trading cards, posters and other sporting apparel.

That nickname, which was bestowed on pitcher Tom Seaver during his Hall of Fame career, has been applied to Brady at times during his career but is certainly more synonymous with the former Amazin’ Met, who pitched for New York from 1967 until 1977.

“Tom Brady is an arrogant prick,” Mets fan Dom D’Angelo told The New York Post. “He’s not getting his cheating, ball-deflating paws on ‘Tom Terrific.’ Go back to Boston and get your own f–king name, Brady.”

Former NFL quarterback Boomer Esiason, who usually praises Brady, ripped into the 41-year-old quarterback during his radio show on WFAN.

“Maybe in New England they call him that, I guess. But you know what? We’ve been calling Tom Seaver ‘Tom Terrific’ forever, for as long as I can remember, for 50 years,” Esiason said. “That’s who Tom Terrific has always been. I am disgusted, and I’m really surprised, and I’m really — I don’t know, it just feels sleazy to me, you know? The Met fan in me is basically really perturbed by it. It just annoys me because it takes me back to my childhood, and I don’t like people messing with my childhood.”

Regardless, the timing of the filing is unfortunate as Seaver is dealing with dementia. In March, the 74-year-old’s family announced he would be making no more public appearances.

The 1967 National League Rookie of the Year, Seaver the NL Cy Young Award three times and compiled a 311-205 record with a 2.86 ERA, 3,640 strikeouts and 61 shutouts from 1967-86.
