This summer, no one is going to party like it’s 1969. Or will they?
On the heels of multiple reports that Woodstock 50 has been canceled, some of the organizers have refuted that’s the case.
A Woodstock 50 organizer told the Poughkeepsie Journal that rumors about the festival’s cancelation are false and the concert will be held. “Woodstock 50 vehemently denies the festival’s cancellation and legal remedy will (be) sought,” a statement from Woodstock 50 said.
Dentsu Aegis Network, which was supposed to be funding the festival, released the following (contradictory) statement:
“It’s a dream for agencies to work with iconic brands and to be associated with meaningful movements. We have a strong history of producing experiences that bring people together around common interests and causes which is why we chose to be a part of the Woodstock 50th Anniversary Festival. But despite our tremendous investment of time, effort and commitment, we don’t believe the production of the festival can be executed as an event worthy of the Woodstock Brand name while also ensuring the health and safety of the artists, partners and attendees. As a result and after careful consideration, Dentsu Aegis Network’s Amplifi Live, a partner of Woodstock 50, has decided to cancel the festival. As difficult as it is, we believe this is the most prudent decision for all parties involved.”
As of now, the New York Department of Health is still reviewing Woodstock 50’s permit application and tickets for the event cannot be sold until it is approved. The event was slated to be held August 16-18 in Watkins Glen, Schuyler County.
Regardless of whether the festival is held or not, avoid the brown acid.
UPDATE: Schuyler County Administrator Tim O’Hearn told The Journal he received notification that the event is being canceled.
