Because every man needs a plan, and some of us need that plan with pretty pictures, we present Where to Take Her: a series that answers a gentleman’s most pressing lifestyle questions and recurs whenever we get around to it. This go-round: day trips. Sally forth.
Key
Aqui es Texcoco – City of Commerce – A famous Tijuana spot that just opened in, of all places, the City of Commerce, Aqui es Texcoco is known for their lamb barbacoa — essentially Mexican BBQ you cut with a fork, pile on a fresh tortilla and top with creamy guacamole.
Deep Creek Hot Springs – Appleton – Time to swim. Naked if you like. Like these lovely ladies did. Deep Creek is about a three-mile hike from Lake Arrowhead. Directions.
Devil’s Punchbowl – Pearblossom – The sandstone rocks at The Devil’s Punchbowl protrude from the mountainside with a jagged eeriness that’s striking from afar and makes for ace scrambling. For maximum otherworldliness, go this weekend for a moonlight hike.
Good Land Organics – Goleta – Who wants to pick finger limes? How about tour the only coffee farm in the U.S.? That’s what’s happening at Good Land Organics, a pristine homestead near Santa Barbara. Call ahead to book your tour.
The Malibu Cafe – Malibu – Tucked into part of the Calamingos Ranch, Malibu Cafe is a relatively new restaurant in the stunning Santa Monica Mountains. You stroll across a wood bridge to get there. It gets chilly at night, so dress accordingly. The truffle and ricotta ravioli and a tall pour of red have solid warming properties as well.
Malibu Wines – Malibu – Malibu Wines is a hike. And it’s best done with a hired driver. Because it’s a winery. With a lot of wine. If you’ve never been, know that you’ll be sitting outside most of the daylight hours drinking bottles. Bring a jacket for when the sun goes down.
Sunset Strip Music Festival – West Hollywood – The Sunset Strip Music Festival kicks off at the end of September along the stretch of Sunset made popular by Guns N’ Roses and the Doors. The stellar lineup includes Murs, Jane’s Addiction, Empire of the Sun and Cold War Kids. Definitely Uber.
