Oh, for a little peace and mutherlovin’ quiet.

These days, we’re beset 24/7 by the chimes, bleeps, and buzzers of our iPhones, the incessant sounds jangling after us like the Langoliers.

Your correspondent’s salvation: Meditation. I.e., basically doing nothing.

Below, the three different places in LA to quiet the rattle and hum.

RESET

For the most guided experience, visit the newly opened RESET in West Hollywood. Founded by Michal Gregus, RESET is a 45-minute class that takes place in a dimly lit, quiet room where you lie on cushions while Gregus lulls you into a deep relaxation.

Unplug Meditation

Unplug Meditation just opened in Santa Monica and is similar to RESET in that they focus on letting thoughts go—similar to what the Buddhists do. Unplug is a little different in that their methods are easy to repeat in the comfort of your own home.

Transcendental Meditation

Paul McCartney calls it “an island of calm.” David Lynch is a major proponent. And, it’s endorsed by the National Institute of Health. Transcendental Meditation is simple to do and easy to learn. After a few training sessions, you can start practicing at home. But they do offer group meditations around town that’ll help you go deeper.
