Given that it has (finally) rained, and that the beaches are happily bereft of beach-clogging tourists, now is a perfect time to visit Laguna. We recommend you do it like this.
The Hike
Whether you’re going to surf or not, make time for a hike through the sandstone caves and fields of sage at Laguna Coast Wilderness Park. Park at the Willow Staging Area off of Laguna Canyon Road, then hike the Willow Creek Trail to Bommer Ridge (the crest is called “the Top of the World”), where you’ll see unparalleled views of the Pacific and the Santa Ana Mountains.
The Lunch
Cold jars of Argentinian lager and wood-fired burgers are on the menu at Maro Wood Grill, a quaint and lesser-known Argentinian spot off the PCH. Their oniony patties are topped with thick cuts of bacon, white cheddar and a rosso bruno tomato.
The Shop
The Cali heritage style was born along these shores. And newly opened North Menswear houses a well-curated bevy thereof, including beefy tees by Jungmaven, felt hats by Yellow 108 and patterned button-downs by Life After Denim. It’s a must-stop for any man visiting Laguna.
