Another piece of Michael Jackson legacy is chipped away as The Simpsons pulls the fan favorite episode featuring the late superstar, who has been accused of sexual abuse by several victims.
Leaving Neverland, a new HBO documentary, chronicles the alleged abuse perpetrated by Jackson with two men – Wade Robson and James Safechuck – describing the sex acts in shockingly graphic detail. At the time of the abuse the men were between the ages of 7 and 22.
In light of the claims made in the doc, Simpsons longtime executive producer James L. Brooks says yanking the episode “feels clearly the only choice to make.”
The episode being removed features Jackson playing a mental patient who believes he is the singer and is a patient of Homer. He famously sings Lisa Simpson a happy birthday song.
The Jackson family denies the claims in the documentary and said in a statement: “Michael was subjected to a thorough investigation which included a surprise raid of Neverland and other properties as well as a jury trial where Michael was found to be COMPLETELY INNOCENT.”
Recently, a statue of the singer was removed from the National Football Museum in England.
