Guests? Possibly you.

The best thing about summer?

Vacation.

The worst thing about vacation?

Making everybody happy.

Solution: Carmel Valley Ranch, our favorite destination within a two-hour drive of the Bay.

Why now? Because they just unveiled the new Vineyard Suites: one-bedroom ensuites that can connect to other lodgings with multiple soaking tubs, inside and out. Perfect for couples or families.

Also because they just cut ribbons on Valley Kitchen, a gorgeous farm-chic restaurant of a generation’s back-to-the-land dreams.

Plus: the resort’s just-debuted rosé, the first of four upcoming wine releases. And 18 holes designed by Pete Dye. And a world-class spa.

They’ve even got something for the ankle-biters: the “Busy Bees Program” (ages 2-5), which we imagine involves a lot of toddling about in magnificent natural landscapes.

Their older siblings, meanwhile, can sign up for half- and whole-day activities at the Ranch Hands Kids Camp.

You’re happy.

Everyone’s happy.

If that’s not what vacation’s supposed to be, we don’t know what is.
