Frankly, This Camper Doesn’t Give a Damn

Chrome. Wood. Bar. Wheels. Win.

Teardrop trailers are a hallmark of mid-century auto design: Chrome panels. Wood accents. Economy of space.

And thanks to the Internet — currently awash with DIY hacks for renovating teardrops — they’ve found a resurgence.

But no YouTube tutorial can replicate the work of a master craftsman.

That man is native Californian Joe Kosareff, proprietor of Vacations in a Can, now refurbing — or building from scratch — the vintage Americana camper of your sweet nostalgic dreams.

Kosareff was already a lifelong outdoorsman and avid cyclist when he discovered teardrop trailers, which usually have sleeping quarters for two and a kitchen in the back.

Now Kosareff restores vintage editions to their Mad Men era glory, each one tailored precisely to its buyer’s needs.

Birch cabinetry. Docking stations for your iThings. Built-in speakers. A Don Draper-quality drinks station.

Joe does it all.

Want to test one out?

He also keeps three on hand for short-term rental, with interiors ranging from California grizzly to chili pepper.

Us? We like the sleek and shiny “Can ’em Danno” edition, formerly a cover model on Sunset magazine.

There’s no better way to bring a bar cart to the woods.
