This is San Francisco.
Last time your correspondent saw a man wearing wingtips, the guy next to me reached out to his partner and said, simply, “Tourist.”
The prevailing sentiment: If he’s so good, why does he have to dress up?
That’s why we remain strong proponents of the Sabah, the ultimate mix of style and casual comfort.
And a pop-up shop full of ‘em is coming to our temperate climes this weekend.
They’re not Havaianas.
They’re not, heaven help us, shower shoes.
They’re gorgeous leather slippers, handcrafted in Turkey by tradesmen who’ve been cobbling for decades.
They’re made in small batches — and they’re not available online.
And we have it on good, beer-soused authority that the pop-up shop will really be a party.
“We don’t call them pop-ups as there is a strong social, dance, fun, community element to each event,” says Mickey, the man behind the brand. “But Sabahs are available for sale.”
It’s at Small Trade Company at 550 Florida Street, Suite D: Friday from 6-9 p.m., Saturday from 1-5 p.m.
Have a drink. Meet other cool people who’ve outgrown their flip-flops.
Sabah’s founder says the brand’s last event, in L.A., ended at a disco.
We can top that.
Just bring your wallet, because you’re going to want more than one pair.
