Infiniti Engineering Academy Offers Students Chance at F1 Dream Job

Think of this as the American Idol of the Formula 1 racing world.

Infiniti’s Engineering Academy will give one American engineering student the chance to work at the Infiniti Technical Center in the U.K. for six months— and then a half-a-year berth on Renault’s Formula 1 team.

Infiniti foots the bill for the winner’s travel, accommodations, and U.K. work visas, providing him or her with a company car, and pays them a salary. Applications have just recently opened up for the 2017 academy, which is now in its fourth year.

The program also accepts (and places) six other students from each of the six additional participating regions, which include China, Canada, and Europe. Applicants must first solve an engineering puzzle test online before even being considered. Ten will be chosen and then boiled down to the pole position for the F1 slot.

Said Tommaso Volpe, Infiniti’s Global Motorsport Director, of this year’s prospective academy class:

“With Formula One more relevant to the automotive industry than ever, and with the enhanced scope for collaboration and real technology transfer that the Renault-Nissan Alliance and our Technical Partnership with the team bring, the Infiniti Engineering Academy will provide an unmatched range of experiences and opportunities to the 2017 winners.”

Register for this year’s academy here. Applications are being accepted through May 20. For more on the academy, watch the teaser video below.
