A concept for a floating prison doubles as a statement about the “Panama Papers” financial scandal by using the documents to build the cells.
The so-called “Panama Papers Jail” was designed by Axel de Stampa, Sylvain Macaux, and Guillaume Devaux.
The concept says the prison would be completely autonomous and details would imply its self-sustaining as well. The upper deck has agriculture plots and a sports field. Below deck, there would be a sea water treatment plant, workshops, and a gym.
In 2016, a team of more than 300 journalists worked to unearth the scale and machinations of the secretive offshore tax havens after culling through 11.5 million documents. Their work won them a Pulitzer Prize on Friday, The Guardian reports.
This version of the Panama Papers is designed to hold those who’s criminal acts of tax evasion were unearthed by the document disclosure, the prison’s built on a cargo ship floating in international waters off the coast of Panama City, according to Designboom. Two thin “sails” divided the jail into sexes, comprising room for 3,300 total.
