British comedian John Oliver started his segment Sunday night by criticizing American coverage of Saturday’s attacks on London Bridge that left seven people dead and dozens of people injured.
The host of “Last Week Tonight with John Oliver” showed clips CNN and Fox News reporters describing Britain as “reeling” and/or “under siege.”
“In no way is Britain under siege,” Oliver said. “Is it upset? Yes. Is it pissed off? Oh, you f–ing bet it’s pissed off. But to say it’s under siege and its people are reeling is to say that its people are somehow weak enough to be brought to their knees by three monumental arseholes.”
Oliver clearly wasn’t the only Brit left with a stiff upper lip curled in a frown‚—many took to Twitter to mock the coverage using the hashtag #ThingsThatLeaveBritainReeling. One of the satirical suggestions of things that really rocks Brits, unlike terrorist attacks, is when “When people make tea in the microwave.”
