The opening season of NBC News’ highly-touted newsmagazine show Sunday Night with Megyn Kelly came to an end last night. The first season had eight episodes run during NBC prime time.
The program was originally supposed to run for 10 episodes, reports TVNewser, and it will return to the NBC schedule after the 2018 Winter Olympics in PyeongChang.
The show averaged approximately 3.7 million total viewers during its 8-week run, writes TVNewser. There was a week-to-week decline, except for the season finale, and it consistently finished third in total viewers behind CBS and ABC.
This leaves many wondering if the show will indeed return. Kelly signed off the last show by saying she will be back “here Sunday nights in the spring.” She also tweeted about it.
That’s it for the summer run of #SundayNight. We’ll be back in the spring. And I’ll see you on @TODAYshow Sept. 25 at 9 a.m.!

Kelly started off the show with a controversial interview with right-wing conspiracy theorist and provocateur Alex Jones, who is known for pushing a conspiracy theory that the 2012 massacre in Sandy Hook was a hoax. Kelly’s interview angered many, and resulted in a number of advertiser pull-outs and NBC’s Connecticut station choosing not to air the show. However, some media critics praised her interview of Jones.
