Meghan McCain is leaving Fox News Channel. She is the oldest daughter of Senator John McCain, and was formally a blogger and TV show host before becoming a contributor at Fox.
McCain was one of the co-hosts on Outnumbered, an afternoon program that included a rotating group of female contributors and a different male guest each day. She joined Fox in 2015.
According to Variety, Fox released a statement which read: “Meghan has been a valuable part of ‘Outnumbered’ and the Fox News team. We’re sad to see her go, but we wish her all the best.”
McCain herself released a statement saying she was thankful for the chance to be on Outnumbered, but that she was leaving to focus on other things. “I have no doubt the show will continue to do well and wish all my friends and colleagues at the network nothing but success,” the statement read, according to Variety.
McCain was noticed for her blogging about life on the campaign trail, when he father was running for president in 2008. She became a contributor to The Daily Beast and MSNBC and in 2013, she hosted a few programs that aired on Pivot, a now-defunct cable news channel geared towards millennials, writes Variety. She wrote a campaign memoir, Dirty Sexy Politics, and a book in collaboration with comedian Michael Ian Black called America, You Sexy Bitch: A Love Letter to Freedom.
Her father is a Republican senator in Arizona, and McCain herself has described herself as a “Republican who holds liberal views on several social issues,” reports Variety.
John McCain was diagnosed with brain cancer following a procedure to remove a blood clot above his left eye this July. After his diagnosis was revealed, Meghan McCain tweeted that her father’s illness has affected everyone in the family, and “now we live with the anxiety about what comes next.” Senator McCain has since received treatment and has remained active in his government role.
