Blade Runner is coming back, and it is bringing its superb fashion taste with it. The original movie was set in Los Angeles in 2019, with Harrison Ford as “Blade Runner.” He is an ex-cop who sets out to assassinate androids that look like real human motions and evoke human emotions, writes GQ.
But while other futuristic movies made in the 80s did not make the future look all that great, Blade Runner “still looks like the future.”
The reboot, Blade Runner 2049, features Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford. GQ says its rumored Ford can still fit into his original costume, 30 years later.
Raf Simons dedicated his entire SS18 collection to a tribute to the movie. He showed it off at a Chinatown grocer in downtown New York, reports GQ, and everything look featured an umbrella, with the key piece being a rainhat-scarf hybrid.
The collection means the original Blade Runner costume designers, Charles Knode and Michael Kaplan, have become as influential as any stylists who have shows on the catwalk. GQ writes that Ridley Scott’s designs were sketched by himself, and had an art department led by designer Lawrence G Paull. David L Synder was art director and the collection featured illustrations by Syd Mead.
GQ writes that Blade Runner 2049 is bound to inspire more designers, since it hits theaters as designers create their AW18 collections, to be presented in January. GQ writes that you don’t need to be clairvoyant to know that “men ant to look like heroes.”
