The Los Angeles district attorney’s office has decided to form a special LAPD task force whose sole purpose is to probe allegations of assault and harassment in Hollywood, reports Page Six.
Los Angeles County District Attorney Jackie Lacey announced the new team on Thursday on police continue to investigate claims made against Harvey Weinstein, James Toback, and Ed Westwick, who are some of the industry’s biggest names.
The team will be made up of “veteran sex crimes prosecutors, ” and they will work together to look at each case carefully, reports Page Six.
In a statement, Lacey said, “I have assigned the group of veteran sex crimes prosecutors to work together to ensure a uniformed approach to the legal review and possible prosecution of any case that meets both the legal and factual standards for criminal prosecution,” according to Page Six.
The LAPD is currently investigating at least two allegations made against Weinstein and one against Westwick. Meanwhile, the Beverly Hills Police Department is investigating accusations made against Weinstein and Toback. All three men have denied the claims against them.
“To date, we have not received any cases from law enforcement for possible criminal filing,” Lacey said, according to Page Six. “We are in communication with the Los Angeles and Beverly Hills police departments.”
