John Lennon’s teachers thought the 15-year-old was headed for failure when they scribbled notes about his academic performance while he was a student in Liverpool, according to Lennon’s report card, which was tweeted out by author Michael Beschloss late last week.

“Attitude in class most unsatisfactory,” Lennon’s Religious Instruction teacher wrote. His physics teacher didn’t think highly of him, either. “His work always lacks effort. He is content to ‘drift’ instead of using his abilities.”

There was at least one teacher that liked Lennon, though. His art teacher wrote “Good work this term,” and My Modern Met notes that, interestingly, Lennon’s “singing” class is left blank. Wonder why?
