A Playboy Club is set to open in New York City this week, including “alluring Playboy bunny hostesses” and a “sexy and sophisticated aesthetic,” reports The Guardian. The opening is in defiance of both the modern #MeToo era and Playboy founder Hugh Hefner, who declared ovet 30 years ago that Playboy bunnies were “a symbol of the past.”
Top-tier membership at the club will reportedly cost $250,000. The club is set to open to the public on September 15, which is 32 years after the city’s original Playboy Club closed after a waning in interest and decline in membership.
A source told The New York Post in June that the club had already sold $2.2 million worth of memberships. A release says the space will “feature a lounge area, a game room and a full-service dining room.” The release goes on to say, “but by far the most attractive feature of Playboy Club New York will undoubtedly be the return of the Playboy Bunnies to Manhattan.”
The club already has plenty of critics. Clark Wolf, a restaurant and food business consultant based in New York and California, said that the opening of the club is “completely tone deaf” given the push for greater gender equality, according to The Guardian.
