Author and columnist Michael Wolff was given access to the Trump administration in a way that most journalists can only dream of. He now details the feuds, fights, and chaos he witnessed during his year in the White House in his new book Fire and Fury: Inside the Trump White House. The book consists of more than 200 interviews with Trump and senior staff over the period of 18 months. The book comes out Jan. 9 — and Trump is already attacking it — but Wolff wrote a column about his time in the White House based on his reporting included in Fire and Fury for The Hollywood Reporter. In the column, Wolff says that after getting approval from Trump to be a fly-on-the-wall and write the book, he spent every day on a West Wing couch. Sean Spicer adopted the mantra, “You can’t make this shit up,” while Reince Priebus didn’t think he’d make it to the inauguration. Kellyanne Conway would put a finger-gun to her head in private about Trump’s public comments, but would consistently defend him on cable television. Steve Bannon tried to suggest that Trump was a mere front man and that he himself was actually running the show.
