Huckberry is no stranger to Timex watches, having started their collaborations with a relatively staid diver then moving up to the more aesthetically complex “Cola” sport watch, both powered by quartz movements. Now they’re making the next logical step in both movement and design minutiae.
On Thursday the retailer unveiled the new Huckberry x Timex Arctic, a timepiece that builds on the watch brand’s Navi XL Automatic. Like that dive-style watch, this new collab has a unidirectional rotating bezel, raised geometric indices, a 24-hour dial, and a 21-jewel, Japanese-made automatic movement. But the more ambitious jumping off point — Huckberry notes the piece is “inspired by historic expeditions into the Arctic” — has also paid dividends in the actual look of the watch on the wrist.
There are a couple of natural co-branded elements, like the crown which features the Huckberry tree logo and the exhibition caseback which features the same element alongside Timex’s “Navi XL” designation, but thankfully they didn’t try to squeeze anything extra onto the dial. There we’ve got a snow-white face lit up by lume on the hands and indices and an orange second hand that sticks out like a parka-clad polar explorer on an iceberg. The bezel top ring is stainless steel, just like the 41mm case and the bracelet, but it also appears to be polished so that it offers a slight point of contrast.
Due to the automatic movement powering this latest foray into the watch world, this is also the most expensive Huckberry Timex yet at $279. But considering the elevated styling that gives this the potential to go from day to night and work to play (not to mention winter to summer, as the Arctic inspiration doesn’t limit this watch to the colder months), we don’t think you’ll have any problem getting your money’s worth out of this one.
