This is a getaway you’re gonna want to book well in advance.
Just announced, Orion Span’s Aurora Station bills itself as the “the world’s first luxury space hotel.” Orbiting 200 miles above the Earth’s surface, the Span features private suites for two, a VR holodeck and lots of windows for gazing down at our planet (or toward the stars).
And you’ll want those windows, because the hotel completes an orbit every 90 minutes, meaning plenty of chances for great sunrise and sunset pics from space. Oh, and ridiculously fast Internet.
These perks don’t come cheap: Reservations for the 12-day space vacay are $9.5 million, and you’ll need to put down a deposit of $80,000. As well, you’ll have to complete an astronaut certification, which takes three months — though that’s compressed from the usual two years, and you finish most of it online.
Also worth nothing is that your reservation is all-inclusive, and if you truly like your stay, you’ll have a chance to purchase a “space condo.”
Aurora is scheduled to be up in orbit by 2021, and taking guests the following year.
