Fox News was the most-watched cable network in both total day and primetime viewers for the week of July 17 through July 23.

Fox averaged 1.9 million viewers between 8-11 p.m. last week and picked up nine consecutive primetime victories, with MSNBC finishing second, averaging 1.8 million primetime viewers.

However, MSNBC confused media watchdogs on Monday by claiming its first weekday primetime victor in its 21-year history, reports The Wrap.

Though MSNBC finished ahead of Fox as the most-watched cable network during the weekday primetime, averaging 2.34 million viewers, the industry standard includes all seven days of the week. Fox News stays on top when the weekend programming is factored in.

The Wrap says cable news is thriving as President Donald Trump continues to make headlines. The other networks in the top five are HGTC, USA and Discovery. CNN averaged 952,000 viewers this week and finished tenth.

Fox News averaged 1.2 million to win the total day viewership for the 29th week straight. Nickelodeon averaged 1.2 million to finish second, but no other networks surpassed an average of 1 million viewers.
