There’s a fine line between aesthetics and performance. Lean too far one way and you can lose functionality, or worse, lose any sense of style. Swiss running brand On has toed that line to perfection since their inception in 2010, and now they’re linking up with Loewe to take the formula to the runway, and to the feet of stylish joggers everywhere.
The oldest design house under the LVMH banner, Loewe has a penchant for maintaining relevancy and subverting expectations thanks in part to extolled creative director Jonathan (as in J.W.) Anderson. As such, they’re no stranger to coveted collaborations; their recent Studio Ghibli capsule sold out immediately and remains one of our favorite launches in recent memory.
But this innovative collection from On and Loewe broaches a fairly untouched area for high-fashion: performance running gear, with the emphasis on performance. It’s a bold move, but a smart one, considering both the recent pandemic influx to the pool of runners and demand for fashion-forward gear.
The eight-piece capsule collection, for men and women, features a full trail kit — a performance tee, joggers, anorak and parka, as well as two footwear styles. Each piece is expertly crafted and impeccably designed, combining elements like On’s patented CloudTec with heritage practices from Loewe. The apparel leans heavily on hand-placed gradient patterning and needlework, but is uncompromising in its technical prowess.
Built with the outdoors in mind and released in a gaggle of bold colorways like Gradient Orange and Space Blue, the Cloudrock hiking boot and Cloudventure trail shoe feature a Missiongrip outsole, finished with traction patterns and hand-pressed rubber marbling, also well as a dual-layer, 100% recycled polyester upper. The styles are marked with Loewe’s signature patterning, as well as an embossed logo replacing the typical On stamp.
The capsule ranges from $275 – $1,300 and is now available at Loewe and On, as well as participating retailers, but don’t expect them to hang around.
