A modern Danish brand like Wood Wood collaborating with an English heritage brand like Barbour? It may seem like an unlikely partnership, but somehow, it works.
Having partnered up in 2012 for a jacket for Wood Wood’s 10th anniversary, this isn’t the first time the two labels have worked together. Five years later, for Wood Wood’s 15th birthday, the two brands are back with a full capsule collection marked by, among other things, updates to Barbour’s celebrated waxed outerwear collection.
Which is a relief, because Barbour jackets need the updating. I blame J. Crew, who began hawking them a few years ago. Now Barbour jackets are as ubiquitous as that blue gingham shirt. In New York, a man cannot wear a waxed Bedale without walking a block and colliding with someone wearing the same exact one. The look might be becoming, but being part of an army of popped corduroy collars, bushwacking down the street, is not.
To be clear: this is not a knock on Barbour. The English brand makes exceptional clothing, outwear included. It’s just that if you’re looking for quality, but don’t wanna rubberneck your identical twin every city block, a collaboration like this needs to be on your radar.
The result of which meets somewhere in the middle of the two brands’ aesthetics. Take the Kilde Jacket. You get the tough durability of a classic British country jacket, but the young, minimalist charm of one of Copenhagen’s most celebrated clothing labels. Surely, the colorful pop of blue around the zipper is enough to separate you from the pack.
Other standouts include this waxed number with its touch of neon orange, chunky two-tone sweaters and corduroy overshirts. And a few bold graphic tees for good measure.
Head on over to End Clothing to peep the full collection.
