Nothing says “maximum weekend satisfaction attained“ like an afternoon up at Hog Island’s “Boat Oyster Bar” in Marshall, crowds be damned.
Of course, Hog Island HQ — along with the Hog Island Oyster Bar at the Ferry Building and their location at the Oxbow Public Market in Napa — are currently closed. In a small but heartening bit of news, though, Hog Island Larkspur at Marin County Mart just miraculously opened for business, as long as you are picking up that business to take it home or getting it delivered (through Napa and Sonoma).
Available to order online via Chownow: bouillabaisse for two, oyster gumbo, chimichurri beef, “clarified brandy coladas” (with cognac, Western Grace brandy, Aperitivo Select, Alessio Chinato, noix de coco, black tea, and lemon), and, of course oysters.
But what about those of us not in Napa or Sonoma? Well, we have some terrific news.
Some highly necessary items from the Hog Island menu are available for delivery nationwide via FedEx. Review the product descriptions that read like oyster fanfic (“Plump meat sits in a beautifully shaped, deep-cupped, fluted shell that is the result of rack and bag farming techniques”), then start with a 36-count bag of extra-small Hog Island Sweetwaters. Add a pound of Manila clams. Consider a pound of chipotle bourbon butter for your home-grilling needs. Then add a clam chowder kit, ready to prepare and heat at home.
Finally, add your own alcohol with their house Bloody Mary mix. Et voilà: the ideal Sunday brunch, whenever and wherever you want it (as long as it’s at home).
