To keep tabs on every New York restaurant and bar opening is folly. But to keep tabs on the most worthy? Yeoman’s work, and we’re proud to do it. Thus we present Table Stakes, a monthly rundown of the five (or so) must-know spots that have swung wide their doors in the past thirty (or so). Bon appétit.
The heavy hitters came out to play this month.
Exhibits A, B and C:
A subterranean drink den from the protégé of Jean-Georges Vongerichten, the sophomore effort from the woman behind Brooklyn’s premier cocktail bar and a full-service kitchen from the inventor of the cronut.
And yet, a hotel restaurant takes top billing in this edition of Table Stakes, our monthly book on all things edible in NYC.
Granted, that hotel is famed hotelier Ian Schrager’s wildly anticipated New York Edition, housed inside Madison Square Park’s Clocktower Building and finally open for business after months of furious speculation.
The restaurant within comes from Stephen Starr, a man who boasts more successful restaurants to his name than many of us have had birthdays.
If you’re a man who cares about bucket-list dining, making a table at The Clocktower should be priority number one.
But don’t sleep on those other spots mentioned above. Those are priorities two, three and four.
Also in there: a new pop-up taco truck set amid the prettiest damn backdrop in the entire city.
Dine on, and drink well.
