Date Night: Water-Tower Speakeasy

By Shari Gab

Way back in 2013, we clued our readers in to Vattentorn, the new “invite-only supper club inside a refurbished rooftop water tower in the heart of Brooklyn.” Only problem? We wrote about it on April 1st, in jest. The place did not exist.

But we’ve got good news for the believers among you: an actual, live, now-taking-bookings water-tower bar opened this weekend in Williamsburg.

Plus: some new threads, a new outpost from Brooklyn’s most sought-after Italian spot and the borough’s best “weird” trivia night. Nothing like a little healthy competition to help you break clean through that ice.

THE FIT
Long overdue, The Row has finally expanded into menswear. Their new capsule collection with Mr. Porter offers up ultra-fine, timeless classics that will impress on this special night and every one to follow for years to come.

THE EATS
From Chef Missy Robinson — who brought unfathomable pasta lines to Williamsburg with Lilia — comes Misi. On the ground floor of the former Domino Sugar Refinery, it’s another high-end (and in-high-demand) Italian comfort hit. The space is smaller, but the dishes deliver big: think totelli filled with greens and mascarpone, fettuccine with buffalo butter and parm, or bigoli with pork sugo. Truth is, you can’t go wrong with anything on the menu; the only way you’ll botch this one is by not making a reservation in advance.

THE DRINKS
The much-anticipated The Water Tower has finally arrived. Perched atop the Williamsburg Hotel, this intimate lounge offers sweeping views of the skyline through floor-to-ceiling windows and plenty of indulgent sofas for curling up on. Expect expertly curated live entertainment and renowned DJs from the world over to push the atmosphere to next-level impressiveness. The libations — just as inventful as the atmosphere itself — come from famed mixologist Rael Petit, previously of L’Orange Bleue and The Standard.

THE FRIENDLY COMPETITION
Question Party is a trivia night for people who don’t take trivia night too seriously. Every Wednesday evening, Freehold hosts a banter-heavy emcee duo who’ll challenge teams on everything from pop culture to NY history. It’s one part entertainment, one part competition. Expect to laugh. Expect adult language. And come with a very creative team name in mind.
