L.A., you know what gets us down in the months of fall?

There is no fall.

Hence why your humble editor is planning a drive north to Paso Robles, where the crisp fall air makes for kaleidoscopic fall foliage.

Our destination: Rangeland Wines, a sprawling vineyard on the 1,500-acre Adelaida Springs Ranch on the west side of town.

The rows of Syrah and Cabernet face west, within breeze-shot of Cayucos, and the chilly Pacific mist provides the perfect temp for maturation.

Also on hand: herds of the free-roaming sheep and bovine who provide the fertilizer.

The rest of the ranch consists of sprawling hillsides and pristine oak woodlands.

There, Rangeland’s cowboy oenologists and their partners Oakstone Outfitters offer guided hunting trips for bucks, turkey, dove, quail and even wild boar.

And for the lady, there’s horseback riding.

Giddy up.

Nota bene: For nearby lodgings, we suggest either the luxurious Cambria Hotel or the quaint Treetop Cottage.
