Each week, our inbox runneth over with news of gear, apparel and tech releases from around the world. In this feature, we’ll parse through the best of them. Today: Suede Sneakers from Koio, a Biolite wood & charcoal burning fire pit and retro motorcycle helmets from Deus Ex Machina.
Dalí. Tarot
This custom tarot card deck was created by famed Surrealist artist Salvador Dali for, of all things, the James Bond film Live and Let Die (the film tie-in was later abandoned). Originally published in 1984, the out-of-print 78-card deck is now back with an accompanying book that explains the making of the cards along with step-by-step instructions on how to use for readings.
The Italian Wool Suit by Everlane
We did a full-bore review of Everlane’s first men’s suit this week. The essentials? It’s a slim-but-not-skinny stunner for those who need another option for upcoming holiday parties, are lacking a navy or grey suit in their wardrobe, or need a suit, period.
Monte & Coe Wool Collection
Monte & Coe, known for its luxury luggage and travel accessories, is launching a new collection of weekender duffel bags, slim laptop briefcases, and travel accessories, including an all-new daily tote bag for the morally-conscious traveler. The collection is the brand’s eco-friendliest to date, featuring products made from renewable and cruelty-free wool, chemical-free vegetable-tanned leather and reclaimed denim. Not to mention, they’re insanely good-looking.
The Mallmann Best Made Capsule
A collab between Argentine chef Francis Mallmannn and the outdoor brand Best Made Co., this updated collection features a damn handsome $1,800 shearling coat, a Stetson hat, a wool blanket for fireside picnics, a portable Backgammon set and some stoneware dishes.
Noah x Mr. Porter
The story of Noah seems simple: a former Supreme creative director founds his own more refined streetwear brand. But its menswear has surprised us at every turn, with many of the releases selling out even now, four years on, and this exclusive collection with Mr Porter — running the gamut from tees to colorblock-corduroy suit jackets — won’t be any different.
The Carter Knife
The latest blade from the knife-makers at The James Brand is also their self-professed “most advanced everyday-carry.” The design is deceptively simple, but once you zoom in — on the Japanese VG-10 stainless steel, slide-lock mechanism and thumb disc for one-handed opening — you’ll see why the brand has earned a loyal following.
18th x Stubbs & Wootton Slipper
18th Amendment is paying tribute to their house glen plaid fabric with accenting grosgrain camouflage piping to give us the 18th Amendment x Stubbs and Wootton Holiday Slipper. Collaborating with the brand who takes their luxe slippers & espadrilles seriously, 18th has produced the classiest looking slipper, perfect for cocktail events or just casually paired with a pair of jeans.
TRÅDFRI
Ikea’s first decorative smart bulb is cheap af. Seriously. Compared to competitors like the Philips Hue bulb which sells for $24.99, you really can’t beat this price. The bulb resembles old light bulbs with filaments, tinted clear glass and warm light, making for a cozy atmosphere. And with a smart LED bulb you can adapt your lighting to different activities, by dimming down the light in case you’re lookin’ for that Outback at 6 o’clock kind of vibe.
Burrow Tables
They captured our hearts with their couch-in-a-box, now the direct-to-consumer furniture company is branching out (just a foot or two from said couch) to side tables and coffee tables. Simple, functional, with the same carefree shipping — what’s not to love?
Le Creuset Star Wars Collection
Star Wars product collabs are generally ridiculous, but we’re feeling this one. You can finally make a roast chicken in a Darth Vader Dutch oven, or a frittata in an R2-D2 mini-cocotte, then sit on the couch with your food and watch the Rebels blow up the Death Star for the fifteenth time.
The Cross Country Collection
Tracksmith has officially declared “Cross Is King” — cross country that is. The athletic brand is paying homage to the long-distance running sport by reworking their cross country collection. Tracksmith even putting the new gear to test in the Pacific Northwest, following Portland’s Jacuzzi Boys Athletic Club — a team of serious post-collegiate runners — who were sporting the hard-wearing merino singlets, waffle-knit mid-layers and post-run overshirts all weekend long.
Todd Snyder x Descente
Another collab, this one’s between one of our favorite NYC designers and the Japanese sportswear brand. The apparel here is a cross between performance gear and upscale winter menswear, with the colorfully eye-popping Mizuusawa Down Jacket a true standout: It’s built from a wool blend that’s waterproof, heat retaining and yet breathable.
Moto Edm Helmet Collection
Yes, retro motorcycle helmets generally look way more rad than contemporary options, but we’d still suggest picking up the latest and greatest to keep that noodle of yours safe. Thankfully, you don’t have to compromise on either front with this new lineup of full-face, open-face and vintage MX helmets from Deus Ex Machina.
The Robloncho™
Dollar Shave Club, the subscription-based service for all your shaving/grooming needs, is going beyond their M.O. and stepping into fashion, with the Robloncho.™ What the fuck is that? It’s a robe, blanket and poncho all rolled up into one. Manufactured in downtown Los Angeles, the Robloncho™ is made with soft, 100% cotton and features two pockets and reversible sides. Name a better Christmas morning outfit.
BioLite FirePit Climate Neutral
This limited-edition grill and portable campfire is now available in a sleek all-black colorway, but the tech remains the same: It burns both wood or charcoal, and utilizes a unique airflow system that prevents smoke. And this model, 10% of every sale goes toward the brand’s new Climate Neutral Certified non-profit program, which you can read about here. They’re only making 1000 of this new BioLite, so act quickly.
Koio Capri Sneakers
You know Koio from our list of the 15 new sneaker brands every guy should know. They just released a bunch of new colors for their entry shoe the Capri, so go ahead and pick up some handmade Italian sneakers in Hunter, Charcoal, Avio, Mocha or Masago (aka green, grey, blue, brown or orange). The big question is: suede or full-grain calf leather?
Patagonia ReCrafted Collection
Patagonia never quits showing up other brands on the sustainable front, and this time, the brand has upped the ante by launching a new line of gear made entirely out of super damaged goods. The ReCrafted Collection takes worn-out, unusable garments and turns them into new, unique jackets, sweaters, vests, and bags.
