Each week, our inbox runneth over with news of gear, apparel and tech releases from around the world. In this feature, we’ll parse through the best of them. Today: a favorite throwback Timex now reissued, Levi’s designed by Tyler, The Creator and Everlane’s first venture into tie-dye.
Burton Mine77 French Terry Hoodie/Shorts
Our efforts to marry the worlds of comfort and swag via matchy matchy getups during quarantine have been well documented (here, and here, and also here, among other places) and Burton’s latest Mine77 collection (the last designed by the late great Jake Burton, though his son will be taking over the project moving forward) has more than a few options that fit the bill. Our favorite is this eye popping turquoise hoodie/short combo done in lightweight, breathable french terry that makes it the perfect lounge kit for the warmer months.
Apple Watch Pride Edition Sports Band and Pride Edition Nike Sports Band
With Pride Month mere weeks away, Apple has just dropped two new Pride edition sports bands for the Apple Watch. Considering the normal Pride festivities aren’t going to happen this year, we’ve gotta find the small ways in which to celebrate. The great thing about these watch bands is they’re both festive and functional and will extend far beyond Pride Month, allowing you to sport the rainbow (in either iteration) all year long.
Palace x adidas Skateboarding Puig Pro
In honor of the French skateboarder Lucas Puig, adidas Skateboarding and Palace have teamed up for what they’re calling the PUIG. Available in black, white and bubblegum pink, the leather sneakers are given an almost driving shoe look, due in part to the heel embellishment that continues from the sole, making them a golf/skate shoe hybrid of sorts. You don’t have to skate to want (or wear) these sneakers.
Lenovo Smart Frame
Deciding what photos one is going to decorate their home with is often an elemental process in creating a sense of place and belonging. But some of us are indecisive when it comes to choosing home decor or like to change it up often. Luckily there exists a way to easily switch out one’s photos — the Lenovo Smart Frame. The digital photo frame allows you to access your photos and upload them to them whenever you want. You can also choose from a variety of famous artworks, practically transforming your home into a museum. Who needs the Louvre after all?
Q Timex Reissue
We have personally worn just about every watch Timex has pulled from their ‘70s archive and reissued in recent years, from the original Q Timex to the Falcon Eye to the Batman-bezel M79. Despite the more enticing nomenclature of the latter two, it’s the Q Timex we find ourselves wearing day after day, for its slim profile, unfussy quartz movement and dashing good looks. The only problem? We have a hard time recommending it to anyone because it’s always sold out. Thankfully, today the Q Timex was restocked not just with its original Pepsi-esque bezel, but with three brand-new colorways that have us reconsidering our promise not to buy the same watch twice.
GOLF WANG x Levi’s
These Levi’s are not for the faint of heart. Made in collaboration with GOLF WANG, the brand founded by rapper Tyler, The Creator, the Levi’s and matching trucker jacket were released in honor of the birth date of the iconic 501 silhouette. The particular style of these Levi’s is the 501 ’93, a fit with a boxier cut that tends to allow more room for slouch. Here’s hoping there’s some soul out there brave enough to pull it off.
Breitling Superocean Heritage ’57 Limited Edition II
For the summer season, Breitling fittingly decided to pay homage to the Superocean style of 1957 and the lifestyle of that era’s surfers. The new iteration of the style features two of the watch’s original elements: the concave bidirectional ceramic bezel and oversized indices on the dial (now in a rainbow of colors). Even better — part of the proceeds from the watch will be donated to charities supporting frontline healthcare workers of COVID-19 in countries most affected.
Cheer x Outerknown L/S Wetsuit Top
Maybe you happen to be among the lucky ones currently situated near the beach — in which case we recommend picking up a surfboard and this wetsuit top from Cheer x Outerknown. Available in either green or navy, the top is both lightweight and durable and made from premium FSC-certified natural Hevea™️ rubber and recycled fabrics, meaning it’s non-toxic neoprene. Even if you don’t surf, you’ll want to start now.
The Hand Sanitizer Subscription
Hand sanitizer is a hot commodity these days, but instead of having to draw blood for it at the drugstore, you can just have it delivered straight to your door with a subscription from Sanitizer. The sanitizer from the brand is formulated within the World Health Organization’s guidelines, meaning it works, and can also be used to quickly sanitize high-touch surfaces (i.e. your phone). Choose from either a single or three-pack and look forward to receiving the sanitizer once a month.
Noah Winged Foot Rugby Short
Not all sweatshorts are made equally, as evidenced by this clearly superior pair of rugby shorts from Noah. Yet again, the brand manages to take something so simple and make it so enviable. Maybe it’s by way of the fact that they are so simple that that’s where the allure lies. Either way, we know we like them and that if we had to choose one sweatshort to exist in for the entirety of the summer, it would be these bad boys.
Weber Connect Smart Grilling Hub
Grilling is hard, but the Weber Connect Smart Grilling Hub will immediately turn you into a master of the grill. Everything you need to know in order to obtain the perfectly grilled steak, chicken, hamburger – pretty much anything that’s capable of being grilled – is available to you by connecting your smart phone to the hub. From there, you’ll receive notifications regarding everything from when you should flip to an estimated countdown cook time.
Everlane The Tie-Dye Premium-Weight Crew
Look, we already told you everything you need to know about tie-dye. If that’s too hard for you, or you tried and failed (sorry), then Everlane is here with a limited-edition run of perfectly summery, hand-dyed T-shirts in mirage blue and dark slate, or stone and desert sage. Yes, if you do your own tie-dye you can come up with ridiculous color names, too.
Gossamer Volume 5: Flower
Our favorite cannabis-centric publication Gossamer has decided to introduce a pay-what-you-can model for pre-order of their issue Volume 5: Flower. Choose to pay anywhere from $5 to $34, or go ahead and subscribe for $35 a year. If you’re still not convinced, just browse through the many aesthetically pleasing photos, accompanied by interviews with actor Adam Pally and actress/musician Soko. Who wouldn’t want a copy on their nightstand?
