Jennifer Lawrence paces in an empty house as an ominous voiceover follows her movements in the first teaser for Darren Aronofky’s Mother!.
Little is known about the movie, but Variety says it centers around a stranger who arrives and interrupts a couple’s “otherwise peaceful life together.”
In the teaser, you can hear Lawrence’s voice ask “What brings you to us” and later says, “Did you know he had a wife?”
The pieces of dialogue speed up as Lawrence’s voice sounds terrified. “You’re insane” you hear her scream, and then “Murderer!”
The full trailer is set to drop August 8 and Paramount has planned for a September 15 release for the movie. Its North American premiere will be at the Toronto Film Festival. The film is scheduled to compete in this year’s Venice Film Festival.
Aronofky won a best director nomination at the 2011 Oscars for Black Swan. Lawrence has been nominated for four Academy Awards. Of those, she won for “Silver Linings Playbook.”
The film also includes Javier Bardem, Michelle Pfeiffer, Ed Harris, Domhnall Gleeson and Kristen Wiig.
