New York City Police are investigating a 2010 rape allegation made against Harvey Weinstein, and are gathering evidence to seek an arrest warrant. NYPD believes the claim is “credible.”

Chief of Detectives Robert Boyce said Friday that investigators have interviewed actress Paz de la Huerta, who publicly accused Weinstein of raping her twice in her apartment. Chief Boyce said that de la Huerta called the NYPD and put together a “credible and detailed narrative,” and investigators were able to corroborate portions of the story.

Boyce said Friday during a police briefing held at NYPD’s Headquarters in downtown Manhattan that they “have an actual case” and are compiling evidence. Since Weinstein is currently out of state and poses no threat to anyone in New York, they need an arrest warrant in order to arrest him. Chief Boyce said that if Weinstein were in the city, investigators would seek to arrest him immediately. Officers have put out subpoenas and are gathering evidence.

De la Huerta’s lawyer has described two attacks that occurred in 2010 while the actress was in 2010 during in recent interviews.
