South Korean tech company Elrois is designing an app that allows users to take selfies with their dead relatives.
The app, which Elrois dubbed With Me, uses artificial intelligence to create avatars of a user’s relatives, who are scanned and 3D mapped while they are still alive. These avatars can then be plugged into selfies, and users can even talk to them.
In an interview with BBC News, Elrois’ Eun Jin Lim explained that With Me was inspired by the realization that she had no pictures with her deceased grandmother. With Me is one method through which she, and others in her position, can keep their friends and relatives present in their lives.
