James Murdoch, the chief executive of 21st Century Fox Inc. and a member of the board of The Wall Street Journal parent News Corp, joined the growing list of major U.S. business leaders who criticized President Donald Trump’s response to white supremacist violence in Virginia last weekend.
Murdoch wrote in a note that was sent to friends and colleagues and was shared with The Wall Street Journal that he thinks the president’s reaction is concerning to all Americans and free people.
“I can’t even believe I have to write this: standing up to Nazis is essential; there are no good Nazis. Or Klansmen, or terrorists. Democrats, Republicans, and others must all agree on this, and it compromises nothing for them to do so,” Murdoch continued.
He also singled out movie 21st Century Fox had released, like as 12 Years a Slave, saying that Fox has never been afraid to “help storytellers and artists say important things.”
Murdoch and his wife have pledged to donate $1 million to the Anti-Defamation League and encouraged others to do so, writes The Wall Street Journal.
Trump has been widely criticized across the board for waiting two days before he condemned the torch-carrying white supremacist groups that marched in Charlottesville, Va. on Saturday. He also said that there were some “very fine people” among them and he blamed “both sides” for violent clashes, which ended with one young woman dead.
