Your average physicist will tell you time travel’s a probabilistic unlikelihood.
But any man who’s ducked out of a play at intermission will tell you two hours can be stretched to infinity with an NEA grant.
There are, of course, exceptions — namely the San Francisco Neo-Futurists, a baby-fresh ensemble premiering next Monday and Tuesday with their time-contracting Too Much Light Makes the Baby Go Blind at Boxcar Theatre, tickets on sale now.
Nutshell: TML is 30 plays in 60 minutes. Audience gets a numbered list of the plays. They shout numbers at the stage. The plays happen. You laugh. You don’t laugh. No matter what, two minutes later it’ll be something else.
Before you know it, it’s over.
Happy date, and the night’s still young.
A little pedigree: the Neos aren’t new. They cropped up in Chicago back on December 2nd of 1988. About a decade ago, they spun off their first franchise in NYC, and now, on their 25th anniversary, they’re giving themselves to SF.
They discard a stack of plays after every week’s run and replace them with new ones to keep things fresh. Add in the randomness, and you’ve got a show you can’t see twice.
Physicists call that the butterfly effect.
